Turangi is situated at the southern end of Lake Taupo in the Central North Island. The surrounding rivers like the Tauranga-Taupo, the Hinemaiai and the Tongariro River has some of the best trout fishing in the world.
It's only a 40 minute drive to Mt Ruapehu and Whakapapa Skifield or a little bit further around the mountain to Turoa Skifield for a dash down the slopes whether that be on a snowboard or skis.
Come off the mountain and head to the Tokaanu Hot Pools to soak those tired muscles or to just enjoy the tranquility of the area.
The Tongariro River runs alongside Turangi and flows out to Lake Taupo and is well known for trout fishing, water skiing or soaking up the sun on one of the beaches.
Enjoy the beautiful surroundings on foot or bike your way around the tracks. If you need some wheels, pop into the local bike shop 'COG' next to the dairy and Alex will get you sorted and on your way.
Summer Sports - There are several boat launching facilities at the Southern end of Lake Taupo and safe areas for swimming, boating, water-skiing, canoeing. Only a 30 minute drive to Taupo for bungy jumping, the flying fox, the swing, parachuting, paragliding, and all the extreme sports you could think of.
The i-site is located in the Turangi Town Centre who will assist you with activities and travel arrangements.
